I was following around some links today, and came across this US government website with some demographic and salary information for American physicians. Included is a little blurb about the future job demand, hours worked, and outlook of the profession as a career.
At the bottom, there's also links to profiles for other health care professions, including veterinarians, optometrists, dentists, speech pathologists, and others. www.bls.gov/oco/ocos074.htm Ian UBC, MS2 |

Here's yet another set of US physician salaries, broken down into specialties. There's a set of salaries immediately out of residency, and another set three years into practice, which may help show the increase in annual income as the practice and the physician matures.

Here's a couple more websites that you can look at:
This first URL from the American College of Physicians not only gives some salary information, but also gives an analysis of total physician salary as it is influenced by factors such as fee-for service vs salaried, or geographical location in the US. www.acponline.org/journals/news/feb01/pay.htm This second URL has listings for many of the hospital specialties. Once you click on a specialty, you can look at average salaries for that specialty as compiled by several different agencies (ie. the data come from several different sources.) www.modernhealthcare.com/charts/physic_comp_main.php3 Ian UBC, Med 3 |

Here's another two websites on US physician salaries. The first one doesn't have as extensive a range of different specialties.

Here's another useful website that has current US job postings for a wide range of physician specialties. Well worth taking the time to explore to see what sorts of job opportunities are available on-line for each specialty, in addition to the on call and other requirements in each practice.
