This thread is copied from the McMaster School Section
To McMaster medical students: Has anyone (or anyone you know) wrote the USMLE Step 1? If so, did you find it difficult not having had a didactic, comprehensive review of the subject matter (as you might find at a more traditional medical school)? Were you able to allocate sufficient time in advance of the test to adequately prepare? Were you satisfied with your mark? And, do you think being at Mac disadvantaged you for this test? While we are on this subject, do you know what type of weighting the US residency directors place of the results of the USMLE Step1? Thanks. PD |

Hi PDSP,
I looked for your posting in the McMaster forum, and assume that you deleted it, or that one of the moderators did. Please don't duplicate your message in multiple forums, as things get confusing really quickly as people start replying to each message. Even if you put in a header stating that the original thread is in the Mac forum, people will still reply to whichever message they read first, and in general, if everyone started putting in redirects to draw attention to their question, the forums will get clogged up really quickly. I'm going to close this message down, and move the duplicate that you've posted in the Applying to the US forum back into the McMaster forum. Unfortunately, your question is hugely specific, and not one that many Mac students could likely answer. I will say as someone who admittedly hasn't written any of the USMLE steps that there's an awful lot of prep books out there. Even if you don't have lectures, most of the preparation time for the Steps will be done during your own individual time locked up in the library, as you grind out hundreds of practice questions and memorize the book First Aid for the USMLE.
