Question Does UWO give preference to it's Honours grads ?

Hi! Guys,

I have heard few days ago that Western has this "unwritten rule" that 100 or so medical seats are "reserved" for it's Honours grads.

Any truth to this??? May be Western students would know...

Thanks in advance.

Not true. What you're thinking of is seats reserved for SWOMEN, an overwhelming majority of whom happen to go to western and are obligated to do an honors degree.

I see. Thank You.

I am planning to go to Queens. My mom heard this rumor about Western from a friend who is sending his daughter to Western for that reason. I just wanted to make sure...

Are u from Western?

I'm from Western, and what LeC says is true. There is no preference given towards UWO honours students. However, our honours programs do churn out exceptional students who matriculate quite often into medical school. Once you go purple there's nothing else you'd rather nurple? Nope doesn't quite have the same ring to it... anyways, either way, once you've been at Western you absolutely fall in love with it. The high number of Western undergrads going to Schulich may also just be due to them having a preference for Western when they get into multiple schools.

Yes, in an honors program as well. You will also find that Queen's Med will (probably) have more Queen's grads than other med schools do because of loyalty students at these schools have.

Edit: You'll also find that simply attending Western for four years and living in London does not give you SWOMEN status and will not give you any advantage.

hmmm the rumour is false Other than the SWOMEN rules we don't have a school based bias - other than the fact that people born and raised in London or area likely have a higher chance of going to Western.

I understand. To be honest until you mentioned here, I did not even know the word "SWOMEN".

Anyway, thanks for clarifying. I think I should let my mom's friend know. Both he and his daughter are under the wrong impression as well.

In case you are wondering, to be SWOMEN you must have attended a high school in southwestern Ontario.
