Checked SOLUS yesterday just in case. Looks like they didn't make the same mistake as they did last year, at least in my case...

SOLUS seems to me to be queen's equivalent of blackboard for u of t and mcmaster. where the school puts notifications from classes, marks, school news, financial accounts etc.

I'm in a similar spot and this is my second time applying...

This cycle my track record is:

3 interviews
2 rejections
1 waitlist

Upon reflecting on my application and interview performance I really can't see where I've gone wrong. I felt my application portrayed my qualities in the best possible light. I practiced interviews extensively and was provided with consistently positive feedback from a variety of individuals. My actual interviews felt great and I provided what I thought were articulate answers that showcased the qualities that I have developed and refined throughout my life and that would make me a great physician. One of the interviewers even directly stated that I made an "excellent impression" (and yes, I am aware they're not supposed to state biases). My wGPA for the particular schools I applied to was 3.9+ and my ECs are broad and enduring (some extending 18 years back). I have extensive clinical experience given my "Plan B" following my first application cycle. It just doesn't add up.

This is all extremely frustrating considering the time, money (read - substantial debt) and effort invested into what I perceived was a reasonable possibility for a medical career. Medicine is a field for which I have a genuine passion, rooted deeply in my own battle with a rare and chronic illness. However, I'm truly discouraged from applying yet again. I honestly have no idea how those of you who apply 3+ times do it. I respect and admire your persistence.

Sorry to hear about your discouraging experience. One thing you have not mentioned - have you checked your references?

Yes, actually read two of them personally. The other individual was someone I've known for a long time who I could only assume would/can write a decent letter (though one can never be sure).

A friend of mine applied 2 times before. He had 6 interviews each time. Never got accepted. Took a year off to work on his interpersonal and speaking skills. Found better references. Applied last year and today he told me he got into 3 of the schools, waitlisted in others.

Don't give up. Make sure those LOR are not screwing you over.

I've had:

3 years of applications, 3 rejections, 3 waitlist, 1 acceptance. interviews means they're interested. work on your interview skills on a regular basis and keep at it. Canadian med school applications are a battle of perserverence. People will tell you that once you've overcome that barrier you'll be a better person for it (and you won't believe it because you're emotions still sting from the rejections) but it is true. keep at it, and believe in yourself.

if you want it, then go get it.
