Also, back in December, the prof offered an opportunity for us to write an extra paper for up to 2% bonus marks. I was not aware of this until now. What can I say to the prof so that she will still let me do it? She is a very nice person, which makes me believe she will let me do it (even after the deadline) if I say something very convincing.

Thanks guys.
Not sure about your second question, but for the first question, I don't think any reasonable prof would expect you to be studying for a deferred exam in December when it's a month away and you have the rest of your finals to worry about. So you can just tell them you were too busy and the reason for your deferral (sickness?) got in the way of productivity.

I would just politely explain that with so much time passing between the course and now, a few points have become murky and you want clarification.

Not sure about the bonus paper, it was up to you to know that it was posted and personally I probably wouldn't give someone an extension for the reason that you just didn't know about it. But all you can do is ask and see what the prof says.

I agree with this person. The first one she will probably help you.
But the 2nd one, it's your fault for not realising that there's 2% bonus. I guess you can give it a shot but I don't see an excuse for this.

your prof is obliged to help you until the deferred exam is over. because the course is still on until the exam has been written.

Just be direct and sincere. All will be fine with no. 1 and it is a toss-up for 2.
