Default Average MMI performance

What is the “average” standard for MMI performance? As it stands, I need to be the top 60% for MMI to get into med school. Assuming 7% people can’t converse/dress professionally, realistically I should have a 2/3 chance of acceptance. Now how do I avoid being in the lower 1/3?

What were the short comings of the interview below? On a scale of 1-10, how would you rate this interview?

http://www.ucalgary.ca/mdprogram/pro...ns/mmi/samples

The interview seems pretty standard to me and with the addition of a few personal stories/jokes, I don’t see how anyone else would perform any differently. Where would the bottom 1/3 fail at? Any tips?

Thank you

Her response I think could get quite repetitive - i.e. she would sometimes say the same sentence about 3 times with different word order.

What she did great, that the bottom 1/3 would fail at is, to look at the situation from all angles. Some may only talk about how they can't give the passkey but they wouldn't talk about how they would take care of their friend. She reflected on the situation when she came in to demonstrate she understood it. When asked if she had any further comments in the end, she tied the scenario to its importance to medicine. She was composed - not fidgeting, ummahh-ing, laughing to much, etc. Neglecting these sort of things I think would put someone at the 'bottom 1/3' as you put it.

Sorry if it wasnt clear in the OP but i was talking about the video on the bottom of the page. Regarding the last scenario in the .pdf, ah Siht happens. Only when in Africa, you realize how important education is in changing people's perspectives.... not that Jersey Shore doesnt put up a good case

I grew up around actions like these (ghetto type living) so I was witness to crap like this on a regular basis. Just p!sses me off the disregard people have for others.

Now obviously the context of that picture is what's missing but my personal biases based on my own experiences draw out that natural reaction in me and sometimes it has landed me in a bit of a pickle when I've encountered such things throughout my adult life. That would be a difficult question for me to answer especially within a heavily militarized/policed country.

As GSP once said " I was not impressed with your performance".
P.S. That's what I think about that girl's performance in the video.

I don't know why I cringed through that entire video.

It wasn't that her answer was bad. I could feel her nervousness. Stupid mirror neurons. She also repeated the same point over and over again.

I think most people will be nervous and end up doing stupid stuff one way or another.

Any ratings for her performance?

The girl in the video is pretty awful to be honest.

Dr. Walker talked about this last year. That is a SAMPLE video, not a video of what your response should look like (there was some fuss because people started thinking that the girl in the video gave a good response).

What do you think the interview is lacking for it to be awful? I certainly dont think the interview is great but as the title indicates, I am only trying to get an idea of the average performance.
