hey guys, a lot of dent schools require 6 credits of biochemistry with lab, i have a class in intro biochem and a higher level in structural biochem (320 for u of a'ers), i know a lot of schools want metabolism (310 for u of a'ers), is that the biochem with lab other schools (who don't strictly list specific equivalents) are looking for... because honestly we have no labs in biochem unless ur a biochem major doing 400 level biochem...

I was wondering the same thing - I have BIOCH 200 and 330, is that enough for UBC? Considering taking another one if I need to, and UBC hasn't emailed me back about it.

Manitoba only specifies 6* of biochemistry on their requirements and it doesn't say anywhere that a lab is required on that page. The only place where it say that a lab component is required is when you click on the course description, therefore you're probably ok with BIOCH 200 and any of the 300-level BIOCH's to satisfy the 6*. [EDIT: Manitoba requires both BIOCH 310 and 330 from the U of A (Thanks zap_man99)] If you're really concerned about it you should check out their course calendar and transfer list for pre-approved transfer credit courses. From what I could tell, only BIOCH 320 and 330 have been assessed (as of Fall 2008) but that doesn't necessarily mean that the other ones won't be approved. If you can find out from the admin office definitely post your results here! https://aurora.umanitoba.ca/banprod/..._trans_eq_main Those 320/330 count towards credits in CHEM 3XXX so if you can find a 300-level CHEM at Manitoba that has 2360/2370 as pre-reqs then you should in theory be good to go. From browsing through the list, CHEM 2360 is the same as MBIO 2360 so there may be a microbiology course at UAlberta that you can take (not sure about that but worth investigating). Check out CHEM 3570 Last edited by magnesium : 08-22-2011 at 08:26 PM. |

Manitoba requires both 310 and 330. I made that mistake one year.
But the rest of that info is awesome! |

geez, you really need more than bioch 200 (u of a) for ubc? All I've done is bioch 200. I thought that was the norm for professional schools in general.

for those considering an easy biochem course that meets the requirement for dental schools, consider this online course:http://www.onlinebiochemistrycourse.com/ offered by university of toronto
i took it from jan-may this year and it worked out quite well for me...it equals 1 credit which is equivalent to two in-class uoft 2nd year biochem courses (bch200 level) |
