I've posted in the med student forum because it has interesting discussions, but I make it rather clear (between my sig and what I say in posts) that I am a premed. I've also asked questions there, again clarifying my current status.

If this is a no-no, please let me know and I'll stop.

No thats totally acceptable. What he means are when people have baseless opinions that they input into debates. Unsuspecting users might think these opinions are garnered through experience when, in fact, most/all of it is based on anecdotal evidence.

Feel free to contribute as much as you'd like.

Default A possible solution to reducing the spam bots

Hi,

I think one of the reason why there are an excessively large number of spam bots is because the forum isn't updated in quite some time.

vBulletin® Version 3.6.5 --> vBulletin® Version 4.0

Its just a suggestion and I may be wrong though worth investigating

I think we should have a "successes of the day" thread where people just post if they've happened to accomplish something on that day. They ace their big bio test, they come on and post it.

Just a big hive of positivity and congratulation.

Yes, it was going for a while but dropped off. Perhaps there is some reluctance to make posts that could be seen as bragging (even if not).

Can we please have more people with spam-deleting privileges, to clean up the spam in this forum? (I am volunteering myself here) Or at least fix permissions such that when users with an established history on the forum report spam, that spam immediately disappears from view (even though final confirmation of the deletion might still require final moderator approval to be permanently purged, for example).

Another thing you might try is requiring people with 10 posts or less to have their messages approved before appearing on the site. I've seen this work well on other forums.

Thanks.

A site full of overachievers don't typically have any such issues of being reluctant to brag or boast of their accomplishments lol
