Default First year woes

Hello,

Well, I'm a first year student and I received my psych midterm back today. I got an 80% and am pretty disappointed. I don't know why this bugs me so much but can one midterm or one mark really mess up someone's chances of getting into med school? Especially a first year course? Do med schools (mac, u of t, queens) really care a lot about first year courses? Does an A- look bad on a transcript? I know it's a whole lot of questions but I'd really appreciate it if someone could help me out.

Cheers,

A confused first year

Are you kidding me?

You received 80% on a midterm and you are disappointed?

Do you honestly think your chances for admissions to a medical school are dashed because of it? Come on now!

WOW. You need to relax. Look at older threads - this topic has been covered many times but usually students are more worried about a C/D/F on their transcript rather than A-. If you look at the stats of people that get into med school in the accepted/rejected/waitlisted threads which can be found in each school's forum - you will see that very few people actually have a perfect 4.0 GPA. One A-, B, C, D, F isn't going to make or break you.

While it might not matter for medical school admissions in the long run...

How the hell did you get a 80 for a all multiple-chice first year psychology course?

Shape up. No more cramming the night before, next time, okay?

I wasn't looking for sympathy. I was looking for an answer regarding the impact of first year marks on med school admissions. Nonetheless, I appreciate everyone's replies.

If an A- on one test is giving you problems you would likely fit in Health Sci at McMaster.
