What's the best way to get a research experience?
How does Nserc work? |

As has been mentioned in a few threads, one efficient way is to approach a professor with whom you have a class. You can ask them before or after class if they have a lab and if you can meet them to discuss the research that they do, and if there might be a spot for you. If you do this now, you can potentially chat with them about the possibility of applying for an NSERC grant for your work. (Most folks will appreciate someone with the initiative to find their own funding.) Cheers, Kirsteen

You can also try to join research programs that advertise research opportunities for undergrads. As an example, Sick Kids (in Toronto) already has their list of summer jobs up now.

Transcripts... eh = / might do it next year. Is it hard to get in to (especially if you have no previous research experience)? ________ Fix ps3 Last edited by FireDragoonX : 05-04-2011 at 10:53 PM. |

Does anyone know of other research programs beside NSERC? How could I get involved with some research in the GTA?
I'd love to do get involved in research over the summer, but I won't be living in London during the summer, so if I applied for NSERC it would be useless to me because I'd have to stay in London for the summer (I go to UWO).

Here is a general overview of research programs - http://www.fmd.uwo.ca/research/newwe...s_nonSRTP.html
For programs in the GTA, see: Sick Kids - http://www.sickkids.ca/SSuRe/ IMS - http://www.library.utoronto.ca/ims/programs/summer.htm Banting/Best - http://www.bbdc.org/fundingOpp/summer.htm Medical Biophysics - http://medbio.wisst.utoronto.ca/ IBBME - http://www.ibbme.utoronto.ca/English...t-Program.html Ontario: Genomics - http://www.ontariogenomics.ca/educat...fellowship.asp Canada: Canadian Blood Services - http://www.bloodservices.ca/CentreAp...P?OpenDocument Canadian Language and Literacy - http://www.cllrnet.ca/index.php?fa=UGRA.show I am sure there are countless others (sorry for those out West and East). Also look into what your university specifically supports.. like NSERC, summer research courses, etc. You can also simply contact supervisors whose work you find interesting. |
