Received news on May 5th
cGPA: 3.97 MCAT: 9PS/12VR/11BS/Q Applied: Queens, Ottawa, McMaster, Western, U of T Interviewed: Queens, Ottawa, McMaster, Western Waitlisted: Queens, Ottawa (good waitlist), McMaster Accepted: Western (London) Will be attending: Western Interviews: Western: went great - Interviewers were all smiles and there were a lot of laughs going around. I felt like I really had a chance to shine and show off the best about myself. Ottawa: Interview was so-so. Interviewers were very impressed with my sketch, although one of them was actually looking at another applicant's sketch for most of the time, lol. Got grilled on ethical questions which I answered adequately, but should have been more prepared for. Queens: Not so hot. McMaster: Did as well as I could for an MMI, which at the end of the day, just isn't my thing. Felt pretty good about myself afteerward. Western was my top choice, though Mac was a close second. I guess the decision was made for me though Good luck to everyone!! |

Received call May 26, 2011
wGPA: 3.95 MCAT: 11PS/8VR/9BS/Q = 28Q 3rd year applicant (bilingual) English, OOO, IP ECs: lot of student governments/clubs, executive positions, Mentoring program with an immigrant youth, tutoring, research (2 nsercs, 1 poster, no pubs), university committees, hospital volunteering (the usual...), intramurals. Applied: Queens, Ottawa, McMaster, U of T Interviewed: Ottawa Waitlisted: Ottawa (good waitlist) Accepted: Ottawa ! Will be attending: Ottawa Interview: Ottawa - only interview Didn't sleep the night before, had 4 cups of coffee the morning of the interview (rough estimate). Panel was okay, not as warm as many of my other friends had. However, I was asked questions that I was prepared for, answered confidently. 4th year med student was a bit awkward, looked right at me with no facial expressions at all. I think I went over the time limit so I didnt have time to ask the panel any questions. MD told me to wrap it up and I did. Felt like I bombed it because of that. Felt really weird after interview. Turns out its not true, you can't really correlate experience during interview to outcome! Will be attending this September! Good Luck to the rest and see you all in fall !!!

1) Stream you fit into: English, OOO, IP
2) Accepted off Good Waitlist on May 31st at 10:07AM, waitlist email received at 9:22AM 3) wGPA: 3.93333 (3.9, 3.85, 4.0) 4) Interview feeling: Neutral. The doctor was a bit critical and annoyed with my responses, I felt intimidated. But the 4th year student was very understanding and friendly. The community member was neutral. I didn't walk out of the interview feeling confident :\ 5) EC's (reveal as much or as little as you'd like here): typical ECs - student club president, normal hospital volunteering, did a masters degree in management, research (1 publication - primary author). |

Accepted off good wait-list May 31 @ 11:11 (make a wish
)wGPA: 3.91 (3.71,3.93,3.96) MCAT: 10PS/9VR/12BS/Q Hon B.Sc. (2010) from U of T (St. George) English, OOO, IP ECs: lot of student governments/clubs (President & Exec), 2 NSERCs, a few poster presentations, 1 publication (primary), volunteered at a family doctor for 3 years, international volunteer experience (Sweden), a few scholarships here and there & a grad award Interview: Ottawa - only med interview Stayed at the Rotel across the street (was brutal), didn't get any sleep at all. After interview registration, Chantal got mad at me for eating the wrong food (I apparently ate the interviewers food by accident) so I was already on the wrong foot. The interviewers were nice, and the interview wasn't too bad, but I thought I bombed it. I completely butchered the only ethical question I got (basically said I would kill someone); the interviewer even tried for me to recsind my answer with a follow-up but I stuck with my initial response. Realized the critical mistake I made half-way through the interview, which made the interview even worse. Thought I had no chance for sure. I said I was a Senators fan, so that may have helped! Will most likely be attending this September! Last edited by sp1nz : 06-01-2011 at 03:55 PM. |

i know how often i looked at stats from previous years...so here are some more for future applicants
1) Stream you fit into: English, OOP 2) Accepted off good waitlist on May 18th 3) wGPA: 3.989 4) Interview feeling: Never went through an MMI so I can't compare panel to MMI, but I really enjoyed having a panel...it felt more like a conversation than an interview. However, I found the ethical questions a little bit intimidating since they really drill you and change the scenario in a number of ways for each question. 5) EC's : local volunteering, international volunteering, 3 NSERCs and other undergraduate awards, 2 publications + 6 presentations, teaching assistant, tutor, research assistant, international travel Applied: Ottawa and McGill Accepted: Ottawa |

Accepted off the good waiting list on June 7, 2011
wGPA: 3.88 Region: IP, OOO, English Stream Interview Feeling: Very warm. I struggled with a question and kept rambling without making a point, but managed to regroup and finish answering the question and I appreciated my interviewers for being patient and listening to my rambling lol. And a firm hand-shake by an interviewer afterwards really made me feel welcomed. ECs: I took two years off, working and volunteering as I was unsure what I wanted to do with my life. Have a lot of arts and sports related experiences, and typical research and volunteering placements. I was upset and depressed when I saw people with 4.0 getting in, thinking ah I am done for the cycle. Never give up. Things can happen out of the blue, from the most unexpected. If you know there is a thing you want to work for, go for it. Last edited by placenta : 06-07-2011 at 01:03 PM. |

Hi everyone,
First off thanks for the posts they are wonderful it makes you think you are not alone in the process. This is my story: WGPA= 3.95 defending my masters thesis in 2 months in kinesiology and health sciences (cognitive neuroscience) English stream Interview: the doctor was nice and seemed interested in me and so was the community member. I felt a little bit intimidated by the ethical questions when they changed the scenarios but I didn't change my answers for the most part. Didn't ramble or anything I don't think and i thought I did fine (I guess not fine enough). The 4th year student was really mean and didnt even make eye contact with me and the questions he was asking were not nicely worded or anything. Overall I figured it was a good cop bad cop but I didn't lose it and I was relatively ok with my answers and was relieved afterwards. EC= hospital volunteer in 4 departments. 4 years of research experience. conferences (international and local). active with numerous clubs both as an undergrad and a graduate student. Petition committee at the graduate level and graduate student representative for the department . applied to McGill, Calgary and Ottawa Good waitlisted for Ottawa on May 5th and trying to be optimistic about it I was also wondering if people that are getting off the waitlist could let us know when they got a call or an email(do they just call? what if you dont pick up? ). I was also wondering if when you are contacted they give you some time to get back to them with your decision. Thanks a million, congrads to those that got in and all the best wishes for those waiting!!! |

i suggest you look at the Accepted/Rejected/Waitlisted thread on the forum, people usually write their info there! From a personal perspective, I also was a kinesiology and health sciences major, with the same GPA (3.95) as you and a very similar interview feeling. My medical student was very emotionless, not showing any signs at all. The community member was smiling and warm but the MD was a bit neutral. I came out feeling really bad and didn't think I would make it. I got off the waitlist May 26 at 4:45 pm. You get a call and then if they miss you, you will get an email from Chantal so don't worry about how they reach you. Keep your hopes up and who knows... you might get in soon !! Good luck
