Default Acceptance Division Within Newfoundland

Is there any truth to the rumor that regional subdivisions are kept in mind when determining acceptees from Newfoundland. People have told me that a certain proportion of new students must be from St. John's (I have heard a figure of 50%), a certain proportion are from the Northern Peninsula, etc. Perhaps this is simply an probabilistic artifact of the population distriution is the province. Comments anyone?

i have never heard anything like this before. I do not think that would be a fair way to divy up seats for NF applicants. I hope that all newfoundland applicants are placed in the same competition. it is one thing to divide the competition between provinces as the school recieves its funding from the province and extra seats should be alloted to the residents of that province. But it is a totally different thing to divide them up interprovincially that just doesnt seem right.
Hope i am right
