Default Ever shadowed a doctor at TOH?

Have any of you ever shadowed a doctor at the TOH as a non-med undergrad student? If so, when and which department/medical program was it? And did you contact the doctor to begin with or a program administrator?

When was that? Because apparently there's a policy now that doesn't allow non-med students to shadow... even the doctor I contacted didn't know about it. So I'm just trying to find out when it was implemented.

I shadowed a cosmetic surgeon who works out of his office & mini surgery rooms at the Riverside. I won't post his name for privacy, but he was amazing. You wear scrubs and get to sit beside him while he does carpal tunnel surgeries, lipoma removals etc. He explains everything he does and tried to guide you based on your knowledge from university. He even bought me lunch!

I've gotten to shadow a frew physicians too! I've been fortunate enough to see many procedures and while for most of them I'm in a different room watching through a window, I had to chance to stand in the OR (albeit the corner) for some pretty awesome surgery. Don't want to go into any details just in case though.
I know hospitals used to have programs that would allow you to but I'm not sure anymore.

I had shadowed a doctor at the Civic and Riverside, but it was someone that I worked for. Doctors still let students shadow them, depending on who the doctor is.

A few?! lol I contacted a bunch of physicians at the hospital and at private clinics, but no luck I'd be fortunate to fine ONE lol

Hmmm they may not have the programs anymore, but I'd like to find out... did you do yours through a program or contact them personally?

The doctors I contacted at the General said they'd be glad to have me shadow, then put me in contact with their secretaries/academic coordinator to set up a time and such... but they just gave me a blurb on how no undergrad has asked for something like this before and it'd be against the policy to let me shadow =.=

Lets just say I worked for a couple of doctors who have quite a bit of pull at the hospital. They encouraged me to sit in during rounds and go see procedures. I let them know I was interested and they set things up for me

I think its really about who you know. If you've worked for a Doc or volunteered with one and you make a good impression, most of them would be willing to let you observe. If you go see the surgery side of things, you'll most likely be observing from a separate room... unless you get really lucky
