Hey Everyone,
So I'm an Ontario resident and I've looked around this thread and I'm trying to decide if I should apply to McGill or not. Unfortunately since they don't adjust your GPA in any way I'm not very competitive but I'm drawn since I'm a graduate student (defending by the fall) and I can submit a CV which may give me a bit of an edge. Any advice? cGPA: ~3.75-3.78 (don't remember exactly) grad GPA: 4.0 MCAT: 30Q (10's across) --> Not planning to submit scores if I apply ECs: working/volunteering as a tutor for 7+ yrs, residence don, club exec 4 yrs, intramural sports, hospital/caregiving volunteer, OGS scholarship, canada millennium scholarship, undergrad thesis/RA position, community health centre volunteer, one 1st auth. abstract/intl conf poster (manuscript in prep), 5-6 other 1-3 author posters/abstracts, one 5th author pub, two 2nd author manuscripts (should be submitted before fall), and a few other manuscripts in prep |

Well, if they don't cut any slack to grad students, you don't meet the 3.90 GPA requirement for OOPs. If you are in doubt, go directly to adcoms.
I just noticed your grad GPA. McGill is quite subjective and anything can happen. So perhaps throw your hat in the ring and see what develops. ![]() Last edited by future_doc : 08-01-2012 at 01:45 AM. |

Where do you see this?
The website states: " There is no strict GPA threshold for consideration; rather, applications are evaluated and ranked in comparison with others in the same cohort (or applicant category). " thanks! |

I just found the below on the McGill website which indeed seems to suggest that
3.90 GPA is not required for OOPs. (I put parts in bold) http://www.mcgill.ca/medadmissions/a...categories/cdn Canadian (non-QC) Residents Indigenous Applicants International Applicants Transfers Selection Criteria Selection Process Notice: Under construction Notice ► This website is currently undergoing renovations in an effort to better serve you. We thank you for your patience during this period of transition. Avis ► Ce site est présentment en rénovation dans un effort pour mieux vous servir. Nous vous remercions de votre patience pendant cette période de transition. Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada who are not Québec residents Category Code: MD-CDN Eligibility An applicant is eligible to apply as a member of this category if he or she (a) is a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada who is not a resident of Québec, (b) will have before July 31 of the entering year an undergraduate (Bachelor's) degree for admission as per the Degree requirements and (c) adheres to all other admission requirements and conditions for medical programs. As per the MCAT Policy, applicants of this category have the option to submit MCAT results if their degree used for the basis of admission is from Canada. Applicants of this category can apply to the M.D.,C.M., M.D.,C.M. & M.B.A. or M.D.,C.M. & Ph.D. program. Because all three programs have the M.D.,C.M. as a foundation, applicants need only submit one application to their preferred program. There is no quota for combined-program applications. Key dates The following dates are for the Fall 2012 entry and are subject to change without notice. There is no Winter or Summer admission. •Application deadline: November 1, 2012 •Submission deadline: November 15, 2012 •Target date for sending preliminary selections: January 30, 2013 •Interview dates: February 25, 26, 27, 2013* Key numbers and statistics •Anticipated number of seats available for Fall 2012: 9 The following pertains to the Fall 2011 entry and is presented simply for reference. They do not offer any predictive validity. •Number of applicants: 923 •Number of interviewed candidates: 27 •Lowest GPA of interviewed candidates: 3.51 •Average GPA of interviewed candidates: 3.93 •Of those who submitted MCAT results, the average overall score (numerical) of interviewed candidates: 35 Special notes •Applicants should have a grade point average of their degree used for the basis of admission (DegGPA) at 3.5 or greater to be considered competitive. DegGPA below 3.2 will only be considered in exceptional circumstances. Priority is given to those with higher DegGPAs. •For those who choose to submit MCAT results, it is expected that for the result set used for admission the biological sciences (BS) and the physical sciences (PS) subset scores be no lower than ten (10) and that the verbal reasoning score be no less than nine (9). •Interviews are by invitation only. Selected candidates will be notified of their interview date by e-mail. In-person attendance is compulsory and there is no option to reschedule. Candidates for the joint programs may be called to additional interviews (not necessarily on the same date). •* Interview dates presented are shared with Out-of-Province and In-Province (University-Level) candidates. Well, you taught me something of which I was not aware, that a 3.90 GPA for all OOPs is not (no longer) a requirement.
It is I who thanks you for setting me straight. |

I'm an IP reapplicant to McGill Medicine. I'm in the process of completing an MSc at McGill. I also did my undergrad at McGill.
1st BSc: 3.32 2nd BSc: 3.65 MCAT: 32O (10,10,12bio) Grad GPA: 4.0 I have a publication that will most likely be accepted but I'm 8th author. Lots of poster presentations at conferences and student symposiums. I've been a TA for three courses. Decent volunteer work, dance and student clubs. |

McGill is a black box but I believe you have a decent shot.
