Okay I'm applying OOP (from manitoba) and I was curious as to how my GPA would look on a 4.0 system. Basically at the UofM we have 4.5 scale however what I wanted to know was if universities use your letter grade and just convert them to a 4.0 scale or they just take your gpa and convert to 4.0 (something like 4.0/4.5 x 4.0 = 3.5?).
So I did some searching here and I found that they just take your grades and covert them over to a 4.0scale (ex. on a U Manitoba scale B would convert to a 3.0 on a 4.0 scale right?) So I called U of A twice now and they've told me they take my gpa and covert it leaving me at 3.5/4.0 scale. I'm just so confused and frustrated am I just getting someone who doesn't know what they're talking about on the phone? Or is this conversion only for Medicine? Please help. |

Please direct your attention to the OMSAS conversion table
The University of Mantioba is under the number nine section. Take all your letter grades and convert them to the corresponding number values under the number nine section. I hope my instructions were clear. |

That charts only for med schools though or does it apply to every university? I applied to other faculties too does this chart still hold up?
And OMSAS is only for ontario no? I'm interested in U of Alberta |

University of Manitoba is listed on there. It's number 9. So since you guys have letter grades, your A+ for example will convert to 4.0.... your B+ to 3.3, etc. You take all of your grades and convert them based on the example given above... then you add them and divide by the number of courses.. that should give you your cGPA. Also, full year courses will be weighed double than half-a-year course.
Please correct me if I'm wrong.

for dent at least which im assuming is the same as med:
the differences are A+=4.0 (not 4.5), A-=3.7 (not 4.0), B+ is 3.3 (not 3.5) hope that helps? and i think those are the only differences (unless you go down to C's |

U of A doesn't use OMSAS grade conversion. For GPA conversion for the medical program, they do not release their grade conversion scale. That said, I think you could get a rough estimate if you use U of C med's grade conversion scale in their applicant manual (it might not be the same, but it would probably be close. For general admissions to U of A (not to med), I have no idea.
If you applied, your GPA will show on the application page.

Say if i wanted to apply to another degree would U of A take my letter grade grades and convert them to their 4.0 scale? And does that chart only apply to med schools or is it the school in general? I'm just getting so many mixed answers.
