Default GIM to Fellowship

Is it difficult to pursue subspecialty training after 3-4 years of working in general internal medicine? I assume it would be much harder compared to going straight from residency.

I'm not sure about this one, confirmation would be needed, but I think that once you've been through the R4 match you can't go through it again.
