Hi all,
Here's a quick questionnaire regarding the admissions process at Queens. We ran this questionnaire last year, and I'd like to keep it going on an annual basis so we can generate some profiles of applicants who have been accepted, rejected, or placed on a waitlist for each school. If you are applying this year, please take a few minutes to fill out the below questions. Please keep all replies focussed as answers to the below; I will delete any non-answers in this thread. If you have any questions, please start a new thread so that this one stays on topic. Please check out the big thread in the General Premed Forum as well to let us know which schools accepted you, and which ones waitlisted you or rejected you: pub125.ezboard.com/fpremed101frm0.showMessage?topicID=648.topic If you can copy and paste the below form, and fill it out, that'd be awesome. If you want to contribute your GPA and MCAT stats in addition, that's great too. ------ I'm a (Province) resident in (undergraduate or graduate) studies. My GPA was (XYZ) and my MCAT scores were: Physical Sciences: (x) Verbal: (y) Biological Sciences: (z) Written Sample: (z) I was (accepted/rejected/waitlisted) by Queens. This is my (first/second/third/more than third) time applying to this school. Of all the schools I applied to, I'd like to attend (XYZ Med School) as my first choice. ------ Ian |

I am a third year student at UTM doing a Life science degree. This is my first time applying:
Accepted: Queens' Rejected pre interview: Toronto, Ottawa, Mac, and Western Stats: GPA: 3.99 (4.0 according to U of T calc) MCAT: 39R: 12VR, 13PS, 14BS Extracurriculars: Research, volunteer at a hospital, Medical First Responder with my campus special response team, and I volunteer at an organization that assists individuals with intellectual disabilities (Community Living Mississauga). I also teach MCAT preparation at a major test prep company. Other interests: Ballet, Karate, Swimming, Yoga, working out, Editor in Chief of my yearbook club at high school (these were all the interests that came up at the interview) I also got to briefly shadow a cardiac surgeon and a family physician. Last year I underwent major emergency surgery, and I was able to talk about that most poignantly (lol) at my interview. I told them that since I know first hand how patients feel, I will make an especially compassionate doctor. Last edited by phamco : 05-31-2007 at 11:52 PM. |

I am so happy to be able to post this; I can't believe it's happening.
I just finished my B.Sc. Honours in Biochemistry at UNB. My GPA was 3.90/4.0 and my MCAT was: Physical Sciences: (14) Verbal: (13) Biological Sciences: (12) Written Sample: (Q) I was waitlisted by Queens, but then accepted off the waitlist. Extracurricular/job stuff: I coached a youth basketball team, went on a mission trip to Belize with my church, volunteered at a nursing home, volunteered at the local hospital. I had an NSERC grant one summer as well. I was getting ready to make plans for next year and then got the email. So happy right now! |

I'm an Ontario resident who completed by Bachelor of Health Administration in Health Services Management at Ryerson University in 2004. I also have a Diploma in Emergency Health Services Management from Dalhousie University (2004). I have been working as a paramedic with Toronto EMS since 1999.
My overall GPA was ~2.0. My GPA from my most recent two years was 3.78. I wrote the MCAT three times in 2004-5, scoring between 26 and 28. In March 2007, I wrote the MCAT again scoring 32R. Physical Sciences: (12) Verbal: (10) Biological Sciences: (10) Written Sample: (R) I was accepted by Queens. This is my first time applying to this school since earning a competitive MCAT mark. I have been waitlisted at Dalhousie (23 on the non-maritime list), and was accepted by Western. I will be attending Queen's in September. Elaine Last edited by elaine : 05-17-2008 at 02:45 AM. |

I'm an OOP in 4th year CMMB (done now) at the UofC. My GPA was 3.85 for four years and 3.97 for the best two, and my MCAT scores were:
Physical Sciences: 11 Verbal: 10 Biological Sciences: 13 Written Sample: R I was accepted by Calgary, Alberta and Queens, just waiting for the missing Western email. This is my third (DONT GIVE UP!!) time applying to this school. I applied to UBC, UofC, UofA, Western, Queens, UofT, Mac and Ottawa. I was interviewed at UofC, UofA, Western and Queens. Interviews went well, I thought, except UofA. Of all the schools I applied to, I have NO idea where I want to go to school! Good luck to all on the waitlist! |

I got waitlisted. I had a bad interview, so I had no doubts I'd be waitlisted, and I'm not expecting to get in off the waitlist...unless we're talking last minute.
Now if only U of A got back to me!

I got waitlisted for Queens, however I got accepted to U of C (my 1st choice).
Same thing as others who got waitlisted at Queens - I had a good but not overwhelming interview. I really didn't take very well to the questions that they were asking - they all kinda seemed to be asking the same thing. My whole interview involved the "describe a time when . . . . and how did you feel about it" type of question - at the end I felt like I had just been psychoanalyzed. I knew when I walked out the door that it didn't go well enough to get in. Congrats to those who got into Queen's - perhaps we'll meet and swap stories at a medical mixer one day! |
