I'm just as information-starved as all the rest, so I checked to see if I could log onto Dal Medix and, success!

It's first initial, last name for the login, and student number for the password.

CM,
You got mentioned in the email from the IT guy (his name escapes me at the moment). You're famous (well, even more famous)!

HA! That was too funny! :rollin

I did a double take, especially since the email referred to Chocolate Moose, which is also a very interesting nickname, but not mine.

However, it does say a lot about the power of this forum, which disperses information unbelievably fast, especially for a handful of bored keeners.

What does the email say?? This sounds interesting! Could you post it here?

It was long, but the first part went like this:

"Welcome to Dalhousie Medical School. Some of you reatively have found out what your Dalmedix accounts are, thanks to Chocolate Moose. That’s really creative. Good for you! Hopefully you’ll apply yourself as much during your time here. Once you contact me you will no longer be in a time out, and your account will be active again. For the rest of you, log in with the account information at the bottom of this email."

By the way, I activated my @dal.ca email account, but the stuff in front of it was not cowboy.mouse@dal.ca as I expected (from seeing other people's email addresses) but some random series of letters and numbers. Anybody know what I should make of this?

CM, how did you activate your account?

i went to the dal home page, clicked on My Dal, went through the new user subsection, and was assigned this wierd NetID, and that's pretty much it. Anyhow, I later found this page that allows you to request an actual alias based on your name, however this option is offered only to dal employees. I do know some dal med students, and their dal email addresses are firstname.lastname@dal.ca so I'm sure Stephen Morely will eventually set it up for us.

Thats weird, you shouldn't have numbers for your email addy. There must be a contact email on there somewhere, check it out. You might also consider emailing Stephen Morley, he could probably direct you in the right direction.

I can't log into dal medix using the advice given by cowboy mouse and I didn't get an email telling me how to log in or anything like that. Am I out of the loop or are there others in my position?

You're probably not 'timed-out'. You might want to email stephen morley, but there isn't really much to see on medix right now.

Hey CM,
I've heard that Dal has changed from using firstname.lastname as usernames to random letters/numbers due to privacy issues raised by students. If you check with computing services, they may be able to accomodate a request to change your username.

Hey caperchic,

Thanks for the update, I hadn't heard anything about that, but then again we are fairly isolated here on the medical campus.

If you want to request a change of your net ID (ie:username) email the following;

Please contact Directory.Changes@dal.ca to request an email alias.

Hi guys,

I got my dal email working on the my.dal.ca site, and it gave me a personalized name right away. Maybe it has to do with the fact that I am a former Dal student, I don't know. Anyway, if my middle name was Angus, my Dal email address would be dakaufman@dal.ca
I just thought you'd like to know.

CC,

Thanks for the tip! I emailed directory.changes@dal.ca and they got right back to me with a new email address - firstname.lastname@Dal.ca. Yay - I am no longer a series of random numbers and letters! I'm a real person!
