I've got third year coming up where I'll be a member of a few clubs and exec on one. Got a full course load and looking to get a 4.0. Would 6 hours of volunteering (3 at one hospital near campus, and 3 at one 30 min away by bus) be a bit too much? Should I just stick to the campus volunteering one?

It all depends on the classes you're taking and your time management skills. Last year I worked 20-25 hrs a week and still got a very good gpa. Also, remember that you don't really need a perfect 4.0 and trying to get it will just stress you out. Good Luck!

I did 20-30 hours ECs/volunteering weekly, all my other time was involved in academics and I was a straight A student.

+1. It really depends on how much time your clubs require, how good you are at managing your time, and the amount of work/effort your courses require.

A lot of this depends on you, how much you need to study to be successful, and how much of a life outside ECs and school you wanna have. I suggest starting off smaller in first year to scope out the course load and then climbing at whatever rate you see fit.
I did about 6h in first year and climbed up to about 20h/week in 4th year. I have a 3.98 omsas gpa

I think if you are confident you can manage your time efficiently (by looking at past experiences), then do the volunteering at both hospitals, but if you are not, then just volunteer at the hospital near your campus.

Thanks for the replies you're right I'll just have to see how it goes and how I manage my time. Unfortunately, I really need a 4.0 or very close seeing as my first-year did not even break 3.2 :(
