View Full Version : Immunology
I'm really intrested in studying immunology when I enter university next year. Does anyone here study immunology? If so, could you please tell me more about your experiences in that field?
Also, is immunology considered a REALLY DIFFICULT major, like Computer Science?
Thanks!

Hi,
I'm a third year immunology specialist at U of T. It used to be a fairly difficult program to get into, I'm not sure how it is now. As for the difficulty of the courses, it's not THAT bad. We take many of the same courses as the Mol. Genetics and the Biochem specialists. The real difference is: no labs in 3rd year, which you may or may not like. Although this sounds nice, you have to take Microbiology and Immunology instead. The first 2 years are generally the same as most programs, although phys chem is a pretty rough course. In the third year, I found Microbiology and Biochemistry to be fairly easy, with Molecular Biology and Immunology pretty difficult. I'll know more as the year goes on, but feel free to ask any specific questions you have.

One correction, I think they added biochem labs for immuno students to the program requirements.

Changes to the Imm prog:
- 2nd yr Phys Chem Half yr. now.
- 3rd Year Biochem Lab introduced
- 3rd year Biochem (321) now, 242 (2nd yr)
- By 02/03, IMM335 will be offered - i expect this will be a much smaller class, as entrance is based on strict pre-reqs. IMM334 Will continue to be offered, i think.
Just curious - what gives you the impression that imm is "hard"? What would one mean by "hard"?
