Ahh you're so lucky, congratulations amacdo56!!

Do you mind me asking what your average was? I graduated this year with a biology degree from McMaster, I have a 84% average but I am taking the Athabasca Anatomy and Physiology course online, hopefully I can finish it by the end of March.

I swear I check the UWO student center everyday, fingers crossed!!

Hey! Thanks!

My average was 3.86 for my undergrad and I did a 4yr Honours in Biology. I also have a M.Sc in Physiology so I don't know if that made a difference or not?

And congrats to you to BKA!

Does anyone know how large the accelerated class is?

Hey all,
i have BSc. Kin from U Waterloo and also applied to the western CTF nursing as well and i am getting very anxious to know if i will get in or not
I have not heard of anyone getting accepted until now so these must be first round offers?
also BKA what is your 3.86 GPA in percent? about 85?
do you know how your average was calculated exactly? and what the marks were for those admitted last year (the cutoff)?
thanks!

avg

sorry meant to ask amacdo about the marks

Hey avg,

I had to use the Undergraduate GPA conversion chart that OUAC posts... the link is... http://www.ouac.on.ca/docs/omsas/c_omsas_b.pdf . Unfortunately, it will depend on the university that you went too and what grading system they implement. When I calculated my percentage it's about 87. Again I'm not sure how much my M.Sc helped me out?

avg
02-27-2012, 08:02 PM
thanks for that. i read somewhere that last year the average cut off was 81% and i am above that, but not by much so i am stressing out a bit.
not gonna lie, i realllllly am hoping that your MSc had something to do with it, but im hoping to hear soon because i finished my BSc about a year ago and have completed all of the requirements
do you know of anyone else who has been accepted besides the other person in this thread?
if anyone else has any input about this program post away!

amacdo56

Hey no I don't know of anyone else besides this thread? Input about the program would be great

02-27-2012, 08:21 PM
well hopefully they only let in a few and lots of spots are still left!
I've researched about the program a lot and it seems really good, my friend is in the fast track one at MAC and she loves it! she said its all the meat of nursing and no taking random 'electives' to fill your time.
also i looked at the course outline on westerns website and there are a LOT of clinical hours, so lots of experience should be sweet!
hope i find out soon!

they gave me a deadline to reply to my offer by march 16th so hopefully you will hear shortly after that. Good luck!!

i really hope to know by around then, i honestly cannot wait any longer
let me know if you hear anything else from UWO or about other people getting accepted please!
alsooo, just out of curiosity, what is your education background like and GPA to get into this program?

I did my undergrad in Kinesiology then went to Teacher's College (BA and B.Ed),
Low 90 average, not sure what that works out to in terms of GPA.

Anyone know what the acceptance average was? On the website it says the cutoff is 75.

lmh2113
02-29-2012, 12:17 PM
the website says 75 but considering there's over 500 people who apply every year and only 56 spots it is really difficult to say what a cutoff would be.. especially when many people who apply have a BSc degree and/or more

avg
02-29-2012, 06:55 PM
hi ruslan,
i read somewhere that last year and/or the year before the cutoff for acceptances was around 81%, but it was just from one of these forums, so i dont know how reliable the source was?
did you apply or get accepted?

lmh2113
03-01-2012, 02:09 PM
a really nice lady at uwo admissions told me today that there have been about 10 offers made for this program and the "current cutoff" is 85%, which she said should drop as they begin to make more offers

ruslan
03-01-2012, 03:01 PM
They average the last two years for undergrad right?

Hi everyone,

Just wondering how they offered acceptance before the application deadline (march 1) ?

hi mariejjib,
as lmh said above, they only sent out about 10 offers before the deadline and they were to the students with highly competitive averages and even a completed Master's degree for the previous poster.
so far since those offers I have not heard of anything else...

amacdo56
03-07-2012, 11:09 PM
Hey everyone, I heard the same thing. Of those 10 offers, everyone has until March 16th to reply, so maybe after that more will come out? (speculation)

Does any one know if the 3/5 rule apply for Western medicine after doing the CTF nursing? I e-mailed Queens and Ottawa and they have no problem with ctf nursing but Western isn't replying :(

hey lmh,
just out of curiosity. you said earlier your average was about 84%. Was that for your last 2 years of your undergraduate or overall? If it was the last 2 years, what was your overall undergraduate average?

ruslan
03-19-2012, 04:03 PM
When they calculate the last two year average do they include the current year or the previous two years?

still waiting very impatiently
I have a pretty low average.. below average of most people applying for this program - around a 78%
so i might be waiting for a while until I hear anything back.

I received an offer on Friday. I will likely be declining, but I need a week to think it over. To those waiting I am sorry that I cannot be faster in my decision. My avg. for last 10 credits is approximately 83-86. I am unsure how they look at letter grades, so I cannot give an exact number. Also, I have a completed MA.

London transit is pretty good. The buses run according to schedules and routes posted here:

Has anyone who has been accepted received any information other than the course calender that came in the mail? ie exact tuition fees, getting a physical/immunizations before school starts, what supplies to buy, when we register for courses?

Anyone else hear anything? I'm anxious to have an idea of where they are in the process. Considering they don't ask for supplementary materialI had thought it wa primarily based on grades and therefore would be easy to fill the class after the March 1st deadline. I called but got no information from the admissions office.

I got an email about 2 weeks ago and they wanted my transcript from when I was on exchange in Australia. At that point she made it sound like they had not even got around to calculating my average for admittance so. If it took them that long to figure out that they needed that, who knows how long it will be before the program is full. I was informed they are still admitting at 85% (which is what they said in March) but the average is/has come down.
I am still waiting as well, so fingers crossed!

JulieC

Hey everyone,

I am also waiting to hear back at this point. I contacted admissions last week and this was the response I received....

"At this point we have extended some offers of admission to those students who have 85% or higher on their last 10 credits. You are very close to the current admission average. We anticipate that over the next several weeks we will continue to send out offers and that likely the admission average will come down slightly. We want you to know that we are still actively considering your application. We usually start out with a fairly high average because of the limited offers that we can extend to this program."

Good luck to everyone waiting!

Out of curiosity - is Western CTF anyone's first choice for second entry nursing program? And why?

avg
04-29-2012, 07:51 PM
I received that exact email almost word for word so they must be telling everyone the exact same information.
Western is my first choice for CTF nursing because when I applied i didn't know what I wanted to do and it was the only CTF nursing I applied for...

I'd really appreciate the info also please :)

I got a conditional offer at the beginning of March.. I graduated from McMaster this year with a four year honours biology degree. I was missing an anatomy credit so I signed up in December for the anatomy and physiology course through Athabasca online. Its hard to say what my average was because at Mac they give a scaled grade but by my calculations my average was roughly a 3.9 GPA. I dont know if it made a difference but in my last year two years of school I only took third and fourth year biology credits along with an honours thesis?

I know how stressed I was about hearing, I hope you all hear back from western VERY VERY soon!

Hi everyone! I just checked my student centre and received an offer of admission. My final grades for this year just got processed yesterday by Western (I'm a current student). My average for my last 10 credits was around 84% after adding my last semester so the admission average is slowing dropping. Hopefully you guys hear some good news soon!

Hey everyone,

I saw earlier in the forum that some of you took the Anatomy and Physiology course through Athabasca University and during the regular school year. I'm thinking of taking it and was wondering how you all found it? Any pointers or advice?

Hey All,

Just wanted to let you know I finally got an acceptance last evening. I will be declining as I accepted my spot in the Queen's AST program in March. The average for my last ten credits was 83.95, so it looks like they've just got through all of the 84's and are beginning to accept the 83's. We have until June 22 to reply so there will likely be a rush of invite after that.

Best of luck - hang in there tight!

I decided to call admissions yesterday because my transcript from my exchange semester was still not on UWO student centre and I thought that odd. The admissions woman informed me she still needed to calculate my average with these marks and when she did it was 83.475. She said the round of offers they just sent out was 83.70 and above, so they are compiling a list of people who will be contacted once those offers have been accepted/declined by the recipients. She also informed me that since my average is so close that I am on this unofficial waiting list if any people decline and open these spots up"by June 22nd (when they are due to decide by). I honestly can not believe that admissions is taking this long, but I am hoping if I will get in I will have enough time to fly home and get ready for it!
