Hey guys,

I'm a ON resident and will be starting my fourth year in Sept (if I do not come off of the Waitlist). and I wanted to do my last year at Mcgill while gaining IP status for Quebec. Will this take 2 years or just 1 like in Alberta. Thanks! :)

impossible to gain IP status as fulltime student, i.e., your time in Que will not count. You need a year in Que working, volunteering, sleeping or being a part-time student.

^Oh... Thanks for letting me know!. So I assume that's the same for other provinces? But if I take a year off while working in Quebec, would I be able to apply that year as an IP student?

you mean the "next" year, i.e., you move to say Montreal, do your thing. Then, you need to confirm your status with authorities (do not know how) either as or before you apply. This subject must have been discussed before on the McGill Forum, why not use the search function?

Yes. You just inform the adcoms that next year you will have IP status. Just make sure it will be a full 12 months before the semester starts. (middle of August-ish)

indeed indeed. I just noticed we have an ''advanced search'' function. haha. I'm still slightly confused and will call mcgill to make sure.

This was the part I was never clear on. They'll just take my word for it? How can I be sure that they've actually placed me in the IP pool (i.e. of the ~160 Quebec spots, rather than the ~8 OOP spots)? In my situation, I'd finish school sometime in May and med school starts sometime in August I believe, so that should be more than enough if they'll take my word.

signed lease proving residence
Medicare Card proving provincial residence
Quebec Driver's Licence
local bank account
proof of utility/cell invoices in your name
proof of pay stub from employer
etc
There is documentation required to be completed, follow the process.

Hey guys, for Mcgill, I phoned them yesterday and MD2015 is right, you can use one of the above things mentioned as proof of residency. They also said there are some forms we need to fill out. Hope this helps. I think I will accept my contract in Montreal for next year to gain IP status.

I believe the threads to which I referred you make reference to various forms/documents required and you will then obtain further detailed information.

I have one more question regarding this. Has anyone taken a year off in the past in the MIDDLE of a undergrad degree? I'm not sure if this would look bad on my application. I honestly just cannot take another year at U of T. I thought of doing a study abroad but it's not affordable for me even with the bursary. So my only option is to take a year off and work...

Assuming you are a competitive candidate, there is no reason whatsoever why it would look bad from the viewpoint of adcoms. On the contrary, your increased life experience and maturity will make you a better candidate at the MMI.

Thank you for your insight. I hope this job will help me gain some life experience as well as $$ to support my family. Btw, from your username, I suppose you got accepted this cycle so congrats!.:)
