Hi everyone,
It's true the email acceptances are going out...however, I just talked to the Admissions office(11:32 Ottawa time) and their server crashed this moring as the tried to send out the emails so only about five got out. They are trying desperately to get it up and running but Nicole is currently sending them one at a time in alphabetical order so don't despare just yet. I was told this cold take a few hours to do. I very well could be....I got a general letter sent to me (why it was in my junk mail folder) so maybe I was one of the 5 who received that mass email that was sent out this morning...

Can you imagine how I felt this morning while I was writing my exam.....did I care about the subjonctif or the plusque parfait? Not at all! I`m gonna stay here in Trois Rivieres cause I really enjoy learning the French...I just don`t wanna bother myself with the exams any more...I wanna take this summer easy! It`s off to europe now!

I know tons of people who will decline ottawa if they get another offer. Usually wait-listed people (if you even are) get in within a week or two.

Besides I am most likely giving up my spot to go to another OP school...

From what I`ve pieced together, only some have received the first general letter. As of right now, I believe only the first part of the alphabet has received the second letter....if you didn`t get the first email then you can wait for the second to arrive.

During one of my visits to see a friend of mine at the UofO med school I learned the following. From the approx 10 people that I was talking to that day, NONE of them were in the first round of acceptances. A large portion of the students accepted were off the waiting list, all the students I was talking to were on that list. I`m sure that many of you reading these msgs feeling a little down will have some good news to share within the next couple weeks. I am thoroughly looking forward to chilling with you guys come Med games and Orientation week. I have faith in you.

I feel terrible that I posted my email acceptance news. I feel as though I have caused a lot of people some anxiety!

Please don't worry about it. The previous posts are corrects - a large portion of people that go to ottawa were from the wait-list. Infact, everyone I personally know was wait-listed.

Also, I believe the waitlist is ranked via interview score and then GPA - so if you have a high GPA you should be higher on the waitlist....

Again, I am sorry for starting this anxiety train....

I think many people will still get emails. It also depends on your server and how fast you recieve them.

Probably shouldn't have, although Nina was very polite.

She said that there are a few emails returned to her as unsent because the address was typed wrong. She also said she will have emailed them all before she goes home at five.

So, if you're in the first round you'll know by five at the latest.

She also said that she cannot tell me (or anyone else) if you're on that list or not (I had to try. smirk), and that they mail out offers "all summer". I.e. It's not all over by five today.

Good afternoon everyone...

I'm sure those of you who have acceptances are by now feeling incredible relief...euphoria...and hopefully a bit of an adrenalin hangover (tease) you lucky dogs.

Those of you who didn't receive the email...I hope you're feeling a bit better today. After several stiff Cosmo's...I managed to have a great sleep...what a world of difference that made for me.

I'm feeling up again. Yesterday, after not receiving the e-mail...and trying to convince myself that they didn't actually send out all the emails...and then convincing myself that they had the wrong email address for me...and then wondering whether my filters had placed the e-mail in a different folder...and then thinking that I irritated Nicole somehow and she didn't send my letter out...and then calling sympatico to determine with their IT guys whether I had emails bounced away from my account prior to receiving them...and then FINALLY coming to grips with the fact that I actually wasn't receiving a first-round offer from U of O...I realized that the process is FAR from over yet. Thinking about the numbers for a moment...469 people got interviews at Ottawa this year...assuming, conservatively...that 1/4 of those interviewed will choose another school, if they get an offer...that leaves 352 people...Nicole mentioned that if you are in the top 200-250 on the list you have a decent chance of getting in at some point over the summer...by my calculations...there's still a great chance of getting an offer...especially since about 1/2 the people who have an offer from U of O will realize it's a crap school (smile) and turn down their offers...I have a feeling the next two weeks will uncover some nice stuff for people...let's keep our fingers crossed...

Anyway, mtws and I are going to further damage our livers tomorrow afternoon...Matt...you better get primed tonight...this ol' guy's liver aint too bad...I got a variety of beer including: Grolsh, Creemore "Premium" Lager, and some Double Diamond cooling as I type...I thought we could conduct a double-blind, completely crossed within-subjects trial, with no placebo :) , to determine the relative pharmacokinetic characteristics and bioavailability of each beer...perhaps we could publish the results to contribute to both of our "research productivity" scores!
