I just recieved the best email in the world - I got into Ottawa.
So, everyone check your email and hopefully there will be a really really great surprise there for you!!!
I am not 100% sure if I am going there. I also got into a few OP programs that are really great so...
05-31-2002, 10:27 AM
GO PETER GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!
05-31-2002, 10:43 AM
It's true the email acceptances are going out...however, I just talked to the Admissions office(11:32 Ottawa time) and their server crashed this moring as the tried to send out the emails so only about five got out. They are trying desperately to get it up and running but Nicole is currently sending them one at a time in alphabetical order so don't despare just yet. I was told this cold take a few hours to do. Good luck everyone.
05-31-2002, 10:48 AM
Does anyone know if any of the other schools are sending out e-mail acceptances?
05-31-2002, 11:27 AM
As soon as anyone else hears, please post your initial!!! :)
05-31-2002, 11:40 AM
Please post the first initial of your last name...
Congrats to those who have acceptances!
05-31-2002, 11:41 AM
Got my email :)
Last name 'L'
---keeping my fingers and toes crossed for you Peter---
Edit: email clocked at 10:27:53-0400 (my email clock is not on EST for some reason)
JUST got my email....
last name starts with m
good luck to all...
05-31-2002, 11:53 AM
AniyaSG...if people could, in addition to posting the first letter of their last name...post the time they received their e-mail it would be great...
edit: P.S. I was told by admissions that ALL first round offer e-mails will be going out today by end of day today...but they are sending them manually due to the crash...
congrats M...AnyiaSG...you guys are so lucky...
05-31-2002, 12:09 PM
NOTA BENE!!!!!!! CHECK YOUR JUNK MAIL FOLDER!!! THAT`S WHERE MY ACCEPTANCE EMAIL WAS LOCATED!!!!!
Good luck everybody!

WAY TO GO JAMES...I'M SO HAPPY FOR YOU!!!!!!
I'm afraid, based on the posts of last names and acceptances...I'm SOL for a first round offer...darn...more waiting...more stress...oh well, it's not over yet!
edit: UNLESS...FOR SOME WEIRD REASON IT'S ALPHABETICALLY BASED ON FIRST NAME?
05-31-2002, 12:26 PM
I very well could be....I got a general letter sent to me (why it was in my junk mail folder) so maybe I was one of the 5 who received that mass email that was sent out this morning...
Can you imagine how I felt this morning while I was writing my exam.....did I care about the subjonctif or the plusque parfait? Not at all! I`m gonna stay here in Trois Rivieres cause I really enjoy learning the French...I just don`t wanna bother myself with the exams any more...I wanna take this summer easy! It`s off to europe now!
I`m rooting for you Peter, Mary and the rest from the UofO.
05-31-2002, 12:28 PM
I know tons of people who will decline ottawa if they get another offer. Usually wait-listed people (if you even are) get in within a week or two.
Besides I am most likely giving up my spot to go to another OP school...
I have a lot of thinking to do .... I don't know how I am going to decide
05-31-2002, 12:32 PM
Just got the email myself. Made for a nice after lunch surprise. :D Hey Peter, don't worry just yet. Lots of shuffling to do still.
i fully agree with sara,
i know i will be declining the spot for sure...
that's at least 2 out of the 4-5 who have posted here who are likely declining....good odds for the waitlist.
05-31-2002, 12:46 PM
did anyone's email have their name on it? i got one, but it looks like they were all blind-copied. my name didn't even appear.
05-31-2002, 12:47 PM
Reading these posts has put me on the verge of tears. No email yet and my initials are M.S. I live about a five minute walk from the admissions office and am seriously contemplating going for a walk.!!??
Would that be wrong??
I can hardly bear this waiting any longer.
Hi mtws, I don't see why taking a walk would hurt. Good luck!
05-31-2002, 12:53 PM
it won't work...trust me...i'm almost positive those admissions people get some sort of special assertiveness training to deal with all of us...
but if you're going...my last name starts with o.
05-31-2002, 12:55 PM
I wonder whether the people who have received acceptances so far, since they were blind carbon-copied, aren't the ones from earlier this morning prior to the crash?
I was told by admissions that they were still looking for a few people's e-mail addresses...perhaps this could be the delay...or, perhaps, we just have to wait some more MTWS...
05-31-2002, 12:57 PM
Hey, MTWS...why dont' you call admissions to see if all of the e-mails have been sent...I'd call...but I've already called today and I hesitate to bug them anymore...
05-31-2002, 01:00 PM
Just to put many of you at ease....I haven`t received the 2nd email yet....I received the mass BCC: letter prior to the crash. it was not a personalized letter so I bet they aren`t through the entire list yet.
3rd year Bsc Biochem
05-31-2002, 01:01 PM
The last thing I want to do is disturb a busy admissions office on a day like today - it strikes me as somehow impolite. But I feel a strange ethereal force pulling me toward the door. Wish me luck.
Congratulations AND/OR good luck to all of you.
05-31-2002, 01:05 PM
James...thanks for the info!
Has everyone that has received an email so far received the one mailed prior to the crash?
05-31-2002, 01:08 PM
From what I`ve pieced together, only some have received the first general letter. As of right now, I believe only the first part of the alphabet has received the second letter....if you didn`t get the first email then you can wait for the second to arrive.
05-31-2002, 01:13 PM
My last post sounds like a response to yours but I wrote it at the same time as you were writing yours. I didn't see yours before posting mine. I didn't mean to suggest that calling them would be impolite. :)
I would call if I could remember the number for the life of me. Can you post it? In the meantime I'm checking the website.
05-31-2002, 01:16 PM
I didn't perceive you as attacking me...
...the number is 562-5409...I've found sometimes it goes to voice mail ...if it does wait about a minute or two and try again...within a couple of calls you will get through.
05-31-2002, 01:16 PM
Just a thought, maybe the emails aren't being sent alphabetically at all...they could be going out in the order people are ranked.(?)
05-31-2002, 01:18 PM
...anything is possible, however, admissions told me they were being sent alphabetically...
05-31-2002, 01:25 PM
05-31-2002, 01:26 PM
Of all days...I keep getting junk e-mails...unfortunately none from U of O! Every time the audible mail received tone chimes...I get a chill...click on the darn button...and it's "hotporn for U" from Laura Secord!
05-31-2002, 01:28 PM
Got two emails from N. Racine; one at 10:27 and the other at 11:03. Last name begins with A. And to think I was going to spend the day looking for a summer job. ha!
Looking forward to meeting the 06'ers
05-31-2002, 01:29 PM
During one of my visits to see a friend of mine at the UofO med school I learned the following. From the approx 10 people that I was talking to that day, NONE of them were in the first round of acceptances. A large portion of the students accepted were off the waiting list, all the students I was talking to were on that list. I`m sure that many of you reading these msgs feeling a little down will have some good news to share within the next couple weeks. I am thoroughly looking forward to chilling with you guys come Med games and Orientation week. I have faith in you.
05-31-2002, 01:30 PM
I recieved to emails - one prior and one post crash.
They were pretty much the same - one was more impersonal - the other one was mass.
Also, I didn't finish my last post - interupted
Kim from Western did you hear yet ???
Congratulations to all of you who got in!!!
Anyone know if they've finished e-mailing everyone already? :(
05-31-2002, 01:35 PM
They haven`t finished yet, no.
05-31-2002, 01:35 PM
I feel terrible that I posted my email acceptance news. I feel as though I have caused a lot of people some anxiety!
Please don't worry about it. The previous posts are corrects - a large portion of people that go to ottawa were from the wait-list. Infact, everyone I personally know was wait-listed.
Also, I believe the waitlist is ranked via interview score and then GPA - so if you have a high GPA you should be higher on the waitlist....
Again, I am sorry for starting this anxiety train....
A very sorry sara
I'm in. Just got the email, and for those of you still waiting take heart - apparently many emails got bounced back and had to be re-sent. I had already opened a beer to drown my sorrows and decided to look just one more time. Good luck all, Mary
What does your last name begin with?
05-31-2002, 01:37 PM
Yes I am monitoring the chat, but I havn't heard yet...
At this point I am hoping to be high on the wait-list :(
It is getting late in the day...
As for going and checking. What ever makes you feel better - do it.
I live in London - If I could fly to Ottawa before they close - I would do it.
05-31-2002, 01:38 PM
My last name starts with a C.
I think many people will still get emails. It also depends on your server and how fast you recieve them.
So maybe your acceptance is in email limbo
05-31-2002, 01:40 PM
Probably shouldn't have, although Nina was very polite.
She said that there are a few emails returned to her as unsent because the address was typed wrong. She also said she will have emailed them all before she goes home at five.
So, if you're in the first round you'll know by five at the latest.
She also said that she cannot tell me (or anyone else) if you're on that list or not (I had to try. smirk), and that they mail out offers "all summer". I.e. It's not all over by five today.
Good Luck everyone.
Just one more quick Q: When did you receive your 2nd e-mail?
05-31-2002, 01:42 PM
I`m still waiting for my second email.
05-31-2002, 01:43 PM
I gotta go to a sugar bush right now (part of the French program I am currently enrolled in). I won`t be back on tonight but good luck to ALL of you....I really mean that! My heart is with you!
05-31-2002, 01:47 PM
I got in too!!!! yeah!!! Good luck to those waiting, patience pays off.
05-31-2002, 01:50 PM
Congrats, looks like 2 from NUrsing 2003 will be in Meds 2006, Melissa
05-31-2002, 01:50 PM
MN...I'm so happy for you...congrats!
Thanks Peter, I hope you hear the same. I Could certainly use some company in lectures up front in the geriatric row (the hearing isn't what it used to be). I have a feeling things will work out, Mary
I'm keeping my fingers crossed but feeling rather discouraged.
For all of you accepted elsewhere, could you please reject your offers to Ottawa quickly. :) I have a sinking feeling (after reading some of your scores in the other stream) that the waitlist needs to move a whole heck of a lot for me to make it.
The baby is napping, the wife is on a twelve hour shift at the hospital, it's twenty after three on the day I've been waiting 40 days for, no emails in my inbox - I think I'll have a beer.
Hey Peter, considering your previous graciousness, you're welcome to drop by my place this weekend if you are not too busy. We can wallow together for a while. (The wife is doing three twelves - days - so I'll be home with the baby.) Drop me an email if you get a chance and we can set something up? It would be nice to meet you for sure.
Some friends are dropping by to watch the game tonight?!?
Game Sevens are must-views (Mattism).
Good Luck All.
05-31-2002, 03:55 PM
Hey Matt...I know how you feel...I'm feeling kinda similar. I can't seem to find your e-mail address. Please e-mail me.
I have the kids this weekend but would love to drop bye with them.
05-31-2002, 04:02 PM
I want to extend sincere congratulations to all those who received email today...man, it must feel great. You should feel good...whatever you have done from marks, sketch and interview perspectives has definitely paid off...you deserve it...
Now, for those who haven't received an email (including myself!)...remember...it's far from over yet...we just potentially have to wait a bit more...we've been waiting the better part of a year...what's a bit more? As I said in "'Twas the night before d-day", let's just pray the list moves fast...
Have a great sleep tonight people...
05-31-2002, 05:46 PM
Classy stuff, Peter. Very gracious.

Hehe. Best of luck to you, Peter <!--EZCODE ITALIC START--> "ain't over the"<!--EZCODE ITALIC END--> Hill.
(Like the nickname?)
05-31-2002, 06:32 PM
Yeah, just to reiterate Peter's congratulations to all who were lucky enough to be chosen.
No Ottawa news in my inbox as of 7 PM, but all is not lost as of yet. No retreat, no surrender at this point- just trying to enjoy the weekend and Game 7...
And a special congrats to you, Mary! If there was anyone I met at U of O who deserved to get in, it was you! I'm very happy that you got in!
As for the rest of us in limbo, mtws, Peter, heads high and remember that anything can happen! Stay positive, stick to your vision and we will all be rewarded in time! :)
Best of luck!
I have to say congrats to all also,
(While wishing I was in your shoes).
4 - 0 Detroit after 1.
So many mixed emotions.
Peter, I email'd you.
Hope you're doing all right. It's not over yet.
Make that 5 -0 Detroit.
Even more mixed emotions as the Canadian-born American-Olympian Brett Hull scores.
06-01-2002, 03:22 PM
Good afternoon everyone...
I'm sure those of you who have acceptances are by now feeling incredible relief...euphoria...and hopefully a bit of an adrenalin hangover (tease) you lucky dogs.
Those of you who didn't receive the email...I hope you're feeling a bit better today. After several stiff Cosmo's...I managed to have a great sleep...what a world of difference that made for me.
I'm feeling up again. Yesterday, after not receiving the e-mail...and trying to convince myself that they didn't actually send out all the emails...and then convincing myself that they had the wrong email address for me...and then wondering whether my filters had placed the e-mail in a different folder...and then thinking that I irritated Nicole somehow and she didn't send my letter out...and then calling sympatico to determine with their IT guys whether I had emails bounced away from my account prior to receiving them...and then FINALLY coming to grips with the fact that I actually wasn't receiving a first-round offer from U of O...I realized that the process is FAR from over yet. Thinking about the numbers for a moment...469 people got interviews at Ottawa this year...assuming, conservatively...that 1/4 of those interviewed will choose another school, if they get an offer...that leaves 352 people...Nicole mentioned that if you are in the top 200-250 on the list you have a decent chance of getting in at some point over the summer...by my calculations...there's still a great chance of getting an offer...especially since about 1/2 the people who have an offer from U of O will realize it's a crap school (smile) and turn down their offers...I have a feeling the next two weeks will uncover some nice stuff for people...let's keep our fingers crossed...
Anyway, mtws and I are going to further damage our livers tomorrow afternoon...Matt...you better get primed tonight...this ol' guy's liver aint too bad...I got a variety of beer including: Grolsh, Creemore "Premium" Lager, and some Double Diamond cooling as I type...I thought we could conduct a double-blind, completely crossed within-subjects trial, with no placebo :) , to determine the relative pharmacokinetic characteristics and bioavailability of each beer...perhaps we could publish the results to contribute to both of our "research productivity" scores!
Although we spent the day today at 'Cosmic Adventure', nephew's birthday party - and had some fun, - my daughter was really not up to it. She was up all last night sick. Around 2 o'clock she puked all over daddy. Nice! The joys of fatherhood. 31 May 2002 was just not my day.
Seriously hoping our letters are optimistic. Yes you can get in off the waitlist. I think I can, I think I can, I think I can.
Peter, my beer fridge is pretty stocked right now, but it won't be for long, glug glug glug. See you tomorrow. I'll be filling the pool around noon.
06-01-2002, 05:52 PM
...filling the pool with beer I hope...otherwise I think we should let the kids swim in it... :rollin
06-02-2002, 02:12 PM
OMG!!!!!! I GOT INTO OTTAWA MED!!!
This is so awesome. Congrats to anyone who got in. And you ppl who are still waiting, check your junk mail folder, that's where mine ended up!! (like James... Hey, congrats James!! i called you but you weren't home.. having fun in Trois Rivieres? I'll expect your French to be perfect when you come back ;) )
So you guys are basically saying that if i got the e-mail then that means i got in? Cuz my mom was harrassing me, telling me that my name's not on it hence....
Jeez, i need peace of mind.
06-03-2002, 12:49 PM
Congrats! Oui, je suis toujours ici. J`espere que ma francais sera mieux quand je reviendrai le 14 juin! On verra.
