UBC Electives:ENT Spots all gone for visiting students?

For all those who have completed or applied to to do electives at UBC as out of province students (or UBC students): I was wondering if there's any time in the year that's better to do your elective at a site where the program director has a chance of seeing you and meeting you. I know there's a lot of in province students that need to be accommodated by UBC, so do visiting students ever get electives with people close to the PD? I was hoping to apply in the summer time thinking that there would be the least local interest then but I'm not sure if that's a good strategy. Also who are the people at UBC who help with ENT interviews at UBC?
