I think, America is far more better than the Canada because in America, there are lots of universities available and most of all, courses are taught by the professionals.

1. Canada and the USA both have good surgeons and you will be able to be any kind of surgeon in either country. The US is far more population-dense and more wealthy than Canada though so you will probably have more options to work here or there as any particular specialty. They are also apparently the go-to people for forensic pathology, and our specialists here tend to go down to... Philidelphia, or something, to receive extra training.

2. American's immigration policies suck immensely and if you are not a citizen there you will have hurdles to jump through. If you want to work there you will need to find an employer (so, a hospital) which is willing to advertise within America for the position you want for two years I believe, and if no American fills the job they can apply to get you a work visa and you can live and work there for 10 or 15 years or whatever it takes to actually become a citizen. Back when thoracic surgery was the hot new thing my uncle actually managed to move to the States that way, but it's probably more difficult now. I have no idea what Canada's immigration laws are but from what I hear you can basically just waltz in and nobody really cares. Alright, maybe an exaggeration, but still they're not as stringent as America's.


In short, if you're Canadian plan to work in Canada, if you're American plan for America, but either way work on your written English skills because, seriously... god damn.

Pretty much every application has an essay component. Unless the applicant cheats and has someone else write it/edit it for them, they can forget about ANY medical school (whether American or Canadian) with their writing skill as is.

I mean if someone posted "Durr I wanna be a doctor cuz I watch House and Grey's Anatomy oh OMG and Scrubs Zach Braff is like sooo hawt @_@ so like ya, how do i like be a doctor or at least sleep w/ a hot one? plskthx" would you still advise them on the short-sightedness of choosing a career based on inappropriate media portrayals or would you tell them to stfu? :D

It has nothing to do with the person's writing skill. Their english is obviously a 2nd or 3rd language for them and I guarentee you they are working on that before seriously considering medical school. Not everyone who posts on these boards is hopping on the medical school bandwagon tomorrow.

Either ways you'll have to take exams. Even if you study ''medicine or surgery and medical specialty'' in Canada, you'll have to take the canadian exams. If you study medicine in Canada and you want to go to the USA, you have to take the american exam. And vice versa. Good luck.
