Are any of you putting down any hobbies? Who should I get to act as a verifier for this?

Thanks guys.

Many put some of them down - I did.

They are a low impact EC so the verifier wouldn't need to be any special - just anyone who knows you well enough that you do what ever it is that you do :)

I know lots of people who put hobbies. They put them under the "other" section of the sketch. That way, there's no verifier needed.

What's the consensus on listing watching films as a hobby (note how films is slightly more acceptable than movies, haha)? I have always been really into movies... but by that I don't mean like Transformers, 300, etc... i mean a lot of foreign films, older movies, critically acclaimed movies that 90% of my friends would never consider seeing... it is part of who I am... but is it a bad thing to put on a med school app? haha

as an aside, I know a guy who put down something like video games... it came up in the interview, and when asked which types of games he liked... there was really nothing he could say other than shooting/killing lol

I had a friend play professionally in starcraft tournaments in Korea and Japan. I think that may be an interesting thing to put if he was applying to med... wonder if the adcoms know starcraft.

I think they may be wondering why an 11 year old game is South Korea's "national sport" lol

I thought about this too, but I was under some impression that the "Other" section might not really be looked at by the schools... I am tempted to put it under extracurriculars. Ahhhh I hate OMSAS why why why?

Where did it say Other did not require verifiers? I know that MAC does not require verifiers.

I know that MAC does not require verifiers.Well, I guess I should clarify that I'm referring to the detailed autobiographical sketch, in which there is no "add details" option for verifiers. Of course, you can always put a verifier number in the description if you wish. It depends on which schools you're applying to.

Ahhhh I hate OMSAS why why why?I heard that Other was not looked at as well. However, I made a thread and had my worries reassured. lol.

so we only need verifiers for Ottawa?

Uof T, Queens and Mac only requires the basic info from the sketch (category, duration, 1-line description)?

Whoa!

Okay so I'm not sure I understand this.

The "add details" where we add the education level, hours, description etc is ONLY required for Ottawa? So I should not be filling this out for NOSM?

You need verifiers for all of them EXCEPT Mac (page 9 of the OMSAS manual)

To associate a verifier with a given activity, enter a
number in brackets beside the activity. This number
should correspond to the number on the verifiers list.

Applicants to McMaster are not required to provide
verifiers.

Asside from that, I don't know which version of the sketch the other 3 schools look at. Perhaps someone else here does. You can always email NOSM to verify. Or you can just fill it out to be on the safe side. I'm not sure.

Western I believe doesn't - certainly at the interview they know nothing about you :)

Interesting...I too thought only Ottawa required this. When you click on school submissions in OMSAS and you click on Queens (if you chose to apply to Queens in the first place) it says "Each applicant must provide a Detailed OMSAS Autobiographical Sketch. No additional submissions are required. "
