Recently, I won an award and so obviously, it was not a component of my autobiographical sketch. I think it could improve my chances of being accepeted but I don't know if I should try to inform the med schools, bring it up at the interviews or just drop the issue. Any suggestions out there.

If it was pretty significant, I don't see why you shouldn't contact the med schools regarding it. I suspect that chances are it wouldn't make much difference in the end, but it never hurts to ask. Anything and everything about yourself, including awards, are free game on the interviews, though again, I suspect they won't discuss much of your actual grades/awards since they already know that stuff; they'd probably much rather focus on you the person.
