Has anyone done organic chemistry and biochemistry at the same time? Is orgo really necessary before studying biochemistry?

i did it as i'm sure many people on here have as well...don't believe the hype...if you work hard, it's not that bad

I took both at the same time at Athabasca U., and although it is TOTALLY possible to get great marks, I did understand why one is prereq to the other... In the second half of full-yr orgo, you learn all the basics for biochem... so without that prereq, almost everything you learn in biochem feels bran new. Not the end of the world at all, as it's still all explained to you in the course, but I'm sure the course would have required far less study time if I had had my orgo prereqs. Much of the course would have been review instead of new material. So it's totally doable and not hard per say, you just might have to set a bit more time aside for biochem, that's all.

at my school, organic 1 is a pre-req for biochem 2. however, the only time i felt i actually needed organic 1 knowledge for organic 2 was for a deeper understanding of what was happening at the electron moving level in metabolism...but, its pretty useless anyway so.....
