hey guys,

Just wondering if those who submitted yesterday have had their applications processed yet. (you can check on the web site)

I just tried to verify whether my application has been processed or not, and I guess it hasn't. I guess that paying for the application will put me over my visa limit. By 33 @#%$ cents. Course both visa and the ouac are closed today so I can't do anything about it.

Hey there bad hombre,

I received a note from OMSAS a day or so after I submitted (and I used a credit card for the fee) saying that the application had been processed. I'm sure you'll receive your note in the next couple of days.

Cheers,
Kirsteen

Hey Kirsteen,

So I guess your fee doesn't get processed until a couple of days later? Cool, hopefully they haven't tried to bill my cc yet. For some reason I thought that they'd bill you immediately. Guess I'll call visa tommorow anyways to make sure those 33 cents don't stop the transaction from going through.

Hope the rest of the process goes well for you too, I should have submitted earlier like you did. ;)

Hey Kirsteen,

Is this the note you were refferring to above, or do you actually get another one verifying that you've paid? Sorry about all this, I just want to make sure everything is okay with my app.

"Thank you for using COMPASS, the OUAC’s on-line application.

We have received your completed Ontario Medical School Application.

Your OMSAS reference number is: 2003-xxxxxx-x

Please note that you can no longer log onto your account, view the
steps in your application or make changes to your application within
COMPASS.

If you have paid the necessary application service fees, you will
receive an acknowledgement letter from OMSAS within two to three weeks. If
you have not made payment, your application will not be processed by
OMSAS until your application fees are received and processed by the
Centre."

I submitted my application yesterday using my credit card and it is not over my credit limit. However, on the omsas website it looks like my application hasn't been processed yet as well. Now, I did go online to see if my credit card was charged and as of now it hasn't been charged. Therefore, I think everything will be sorted out in a day or two..they will receive our application and charge our credit card and we should get a note subsequently..BTW I don't think a credit card will stop a payment if you go 33 cents above your credit limit..I think they usually go upto a certain percentage above your limit unless u have specided to them not to do so..it has happened to me before wherein I've gone a few dollars over and there were no problems..

Hi guys,

I submitted my application on the 7th, and on the 9th I received the note from OMSAS thanking me for payment, as follows:

--------------------------------------------------------------

Dear Kirsteen ,

OUAC Reference Number: 2003-XXXXXX-X.

Thank you for your payment. Your application will now be processed.

Regarding payments, I'd imagine that the on-line system authorizes your payment online, as you submit and that marks the point when your credit card company is notified of a debit being charged to your account. It should also be at that point where the credit card company responds with a "decline" message if you're well over your limit. Normally, credit card companies allow for ~10-15% overspill of your credit card limit before they get naughty and reject your attempted purchases. Therefore, if you managed to move through the entire OMSAS submission process without any such hitches, I wouldn't worry about it.

As to not yet receiving the above note from OMSAS, I wouldn't take it as an ominous sign. It's an entirely different step for OMSAS to reconcile your payment within the OMSAS books, where they actually acknowledge the payment you made to them and then set the wheels in motion to process your application. No worries!

Cheers,
Kirsteen

Hey gang,

Remember that credit card transactions are not instantaneous...especially on holiday weekends. Even if OMSAS has charged your credit card, it may not be 'posted' to your account so that you can see it until the beginning of the business week.

Just a further note to those waiting for info:

I submitted on Sunday around 2am, and have been checking the verification option obsessively ever since. I just now got verification that my app has been paid for and will be processed. A screen came up that told me what schools I applied to, that my MCAT scores are still pending, and which of my references have been received. There was also a note on the help page for that screen that applicants wait at least 48 hours after submitting before checking for verification.

Hope that helps some of you guys out. I know I in particular keep feeling like I should be doing something, or checking something, etc.

To those still labouring to submit, good luck!

Do you guys know what it means when it says that your MCAT scores are pending?

The one thing I didn't procrastinate on this summer was getting an ASR from the AAMC and I had them send my scores to OMSAS months ago.

BC girl,

I have the same notice on mine and I sent my scores in June! Anyway, I'm sure it's going to take them a couple of weeks to get things organized. It also says my References are outstanding, but that could be that they haven't sorted the mail, they must have 9000 letters coming in. Anyway, I'm going to call them next week if things don't change.

Hi guys,

To be more efficient with their time, OMSAS probably batch processes components of our applications. So, for example, they'll probably have a large "references" pile for reference letters that arrive, and instead of individually entering the "received" data within our files when each and every reference arrives, they'll probably hand the pile of checkmarks over to someone who updates a bunch of our files at once. An example: one of my referees sent in his reference at the beginning of September and it's currently showing on the OMSAS site as being received. Another sent his in in the middle of September, and although I have the confirmation from Canada Post that it was delivered to OMSAS in a timely manner, it isn't yet showing on the OMSAS application verification page. Therefore, updates to each and every applicants' file every day probably won't be happening--it'll probably occur on a less frequent basis--so I wouldn't worry too much.

BCgirl, with respect to your MCAT scores, did you order the ASR via the AMCAS website? If so, you can track those to see if they were sent out. That may help to give you some peace of mind that at least half of the process of sending your MCAT scores out was successful for you. (If it makes you feel any better, my MCAT scores are not showing as being received yet, either, and I ordered mine online a while ago.)

Cheers,
Kirsteen

I did release my scores, but that was Aug. 2001.

Anyway, I emailed omsas -- the mcat scores haven't been put into the database yet.

hi all,

The "help" or "?" or whatever is at the top of the application-vefification page says that they won't be posting whether references are received until after nov 1, or some such date, i think..

The best way to verify is to give them a call. Go to the OMSAS site and click on contact...you'll need your reference number when you call. When I called, one of my references was still not received...thank god I called as they had misplaced it or never received it. I called my reference and she said it was sent...anyway, to make a long story short, she sent it again by courrier or fax and they now have it. I was glad I called.

I too wrote the Aug 2001 MCAT, but since I released my scores when I wrote it (also adding non-AMCAS codes like OMSAS), I just assumed that I wouldn't have to do it again.

You wrote, however, that you released your scores using the AMCAS website after the fact or releasing them in Aug 2001. Does this mean that I have to re-release my scores too?

Hi. I just checked the website today and they said they received one of my references that wasn't up yesterday. They must be updating it daily.

BCgirl

I released my scores when I wrote the test in Aug 2001 and I had an ASR sent to OMSAS this summer just in case they don't keep the scores from year to year. I 'm not sure if you have to do that or not... maybe you should email or call OMSAS to make sure.

Good luck! :)

Lisa Browning wrote back to me to say that if my scores were released to OMSAS at the time of writing then they should be on file. She offered to double check for me if I gave her my SIN.

I'm really amazed how nice and helpful the OMSAS people are considering how busy they must be!

I'm worried that my referee packages never made it to the OMSAS office. I provided regular stamped envelopes (no tracking number) to my referees, and they indicated to me quite a long time ago that they had placed them in the mail. When I checked my application status, however, it states that two of the three are currently outstanding. I don't know what to do because the site says that no confirmation of referee packages reception will be given until November (the question mark link). Any suggestions?

Doctorfunk,

I have contacted OMSAS about this very issue. In my case, one of the three were "outstanding". When I contacted my referee she indicated she had sent it. OMSAS said they never received it. I called her back. She called OMSAS directly and made arrangements herself to get them the evaluation/letter of reference.

The OMSAS folks were extremely friendly and helpful. They indicated that the reference letters don't have to be in by the 15th. Apparently they are extremely backlogged. They indicated that if the letters are still "outstanding" at the time they update their website they will still accept letters from your referees. I would call them back after the date they said they would be updating their website.

I just got off the phone with OMSAS. They said that they have 15000 letters waiting to be keyed into the web accounts. They are currently finishing up the "A's" so it can take a while (hence the Nov. 1st explanation). In any case, if your file remains incomplete, they will give you an opportunity to re-submit your letters (here's their chance to make them better. It gives you more time to suck up :rollin ).

Hope this helps,

Nams

So its not a big deal that one of my references hasn't even been sent yet and probably won't be sent for a week or 2?

Is it a big deal that the "sending of my application to each school may be delayed"?

I was freaking out when he told me it wasn't in yet!! But now I'm feeling better...

yeah DHP62..don't worry..referees do have a leeway in terms of getting things sent..but of course if it hasn't reached by say nov 15, be concerned then

Just wanted to let everyone know that my OMSAS file was updated today. This morning all my references read "currently outstanding". I just checked again and they all read "received"! My last name begins with F. So if they are updating the files from A-Z, they're somewhere around F.

what about MCAT scores? I wrote it this august, and i just got the score report in the mail and it says they've been sent to "700". Will the OMSAS verification system always say the scores are "pending", or do they get filled in?

Hi guys,

My last name is right up there near the beginning of the alphabet; my last two references are not yet received (although I have confirmation from Canada Post that OMSAS have had them for a while) nor are my MCAT scores acknowledged.

I wouldn't be too frightened at this point. OMSAS do send out that confirmatory letter in a few weeks, telling you exactly what they have received, and exactly what they have not, as well as the marks they have for you. In previous years you had the opportunity at that point to correct any oddities in your file.

Cheers,
Kirsteen
