Is it appropriate to put hobbies in your sketch?...I like to ski and swim in my spare time, but I dont have any awards for them ('cause I'm not that good) and I can't exactly find a verifier for them...

My thoughts are that if you haven't already used up the 48 lines, why not? I'd put them under extra-curricular. . . and you could probably use a friend to verify.

But I'd see what the other moderators think - this is just my personal opinion.

since i had some extra space in my EC's, i listed stuff like the fact that i had taken ballroom dancing lessons, yoga, swimming, and i used my friend as a verifier. it wasn't an issue with the adcom's.

Has anyone heard that they actually check with the verifiers? As far as I know none of mine were contacted...

I'd go right ahead and talk about your hobbies. I verified my involvement in travel hockey with a fellow teammate (rather than listing any awards I received over the 15 years I played, I just stated that I played). Same with my karate club (although I did list a few achievements with that), and had my Sensei verify. I think it will only help you if you list your outside interests, even if they are not organized sports, etc.
