In light of the enormous tuition hike at the college of Med at the U of S (yes we know have the privelidge of claiming the highest med tuition in Western Canada, is the sarcasim evident?) are any of you applying for scholarships or bursaries? If so, since the app. deadline is June 1, and we won't know until the end of June if we are in or not, what are you putting as your program of study? Also do we estimate our costs for the app. using the costs for being in Med or not because the difference is enormous (at least $10000.00 difference from undergrad science to Med.).

I just did a quick internet survey of the costs at the Western Canadian Medical schools and decided we are getting royally screwed over.
Tuition Books and Supplies
UofM $6917 $3000
UBC $3740 $1785
UofA $5674 Not listed
UofC $3733 Not listed

UofS $9300 $6450

I took these figures off of each of the schools websites and therefore they may not be up to date as some say they are the estimated costs. I will be happy if I get in, but I wonder why our school seems to think that thier program is worth a heck of a lot more money than the other Western Canadian schools.

Count yourself lucky...in Ontario it's more like 14000.

I agree...count your blessings...University of Ottawa meds program tuition/incidentals are as follows:

Medicine (MD program)
If you enter the program in 2001-2002 the tuition will be 12,500.00 plus 562.91 in incidentals for a total of 13,062.91.

The tuition for 2002-2003 is expected to be 14,000.00.

we have to endure -45 C weather for winter, that has to be worth at least a $10000.00 discount.

In all seriousness, I agree we are lucky when compared to Ontario, I was just comparing to the Western medical schools.
