Writing Style for PIF

Can any Queens med students please tell me how they would characterise the writing style they used on their PIF?

I have the sneaking suspicion that mine was too formal. Are Queens into the conversational/ relaxed style (w. some expression) or do they just want you to answer their questions clearly, concisely and without frills?

At the schools out, for example, more formal is better. (Just the facts, ma'am.)

I didn't apply to Queens, but I think the same standard applies for all medical schools. Emphasize content before style. You're trying to give the reader a glimpse into your non-academic background, and why you'd be a good fit for medical school. Once you get the content, then make it as readable and memorable as you can, while maintaining professionalism. I know this doesn't really answer your question, but I don't think success in an autobiographical essay can be distilled down to: "Should I write in a formal manner or a conversational/relaxed style."

Perhaps try both and see which attempt portrays you and your personality best.
