Sumi 23,
They will not be giving out wait listed offers until at least June 17th, they wait until all 1st round offers are accepted/declined/provisional. So, don't expect anything this week, but be by the phone next Monday June 17th as that is when the beginning of 2nd round offers go out!

Thanks John! I knew that Mac was calling after the 17th but I didn't know that Queen's was doing the same.

Just wondering...do they only give calls on/after June 17th or do they also send out letterz?
thanx~!
My Queen's response was due by June 10th. So I think it might be possible that people who were waitlisted could hear before June 17th.
Good luck to everyone waiting :)

heads up... i got a call from Anne Cumpson this morning, offering me a place on the waitlist. she already knew that i had been accepted at other schools, and she kinda wanted to hear know whether i was going to commit to queens, but she's going to send the letter anyway. good luck to all those waiting!

Congrats silver! Are you leaning towards attending Queen's? Also, did she mention anything about how many offers will be going out over the next few days?

It was initially my first choice, but after they waitlisted me, i prepared myself for staying in van for UBC next year. now i'm just sort of torn...
she didn't say anything about waitlist movements. something i heard tho: last year they went through over 140 on the w.l. so odds are good!

Hey Congrats Silver!
Just wondering, did anne cumpson tell you about the 140 offers made to waitlist applicants last year? Once you get the letter, did she tell you how long you have to decide? Thanks for answering all my questions.
Sumi23
Hey silver:
You mentioned that the office was aware of the other offers that had been made to you. Were these Ontario schools or others outside of ontario. Thanks.

Today is decline day. I sent mine in today.

So I guess that means Queen's has an earlier decline date than the other Ontario schools? I thought you didn't have to decide until June 14th.

no, mrs. cumpson didn't tell me about the 140 last year... but i know this to be true from another source. and i thought ontario schools only communicated with other ont schools, but she knew about my acceptances at ubc and u of a, so i guess they're more sophisticated than that.

silver,
did she offer you a place OFF the waitlist (i.e. acceptance) or a place ON the waitlist?
thanks

I'm 99% sure the offer was an acceptance from the waitlist. I don't think they'd give someone that was initially rejected a place on the waitlist afterwards.

she offered me a place from off the waitlist to next year's class. i suppose people who were initially accepted sent in their declination right away, and probably a few spots opened up early. i don't anticipate the big rush of invites will occur until after the reply deadline (someone said this was the 17th?...)

For Queen's my reply was due by the 10th, so there should be some movement now, but I suspect there'll be more after July 2nd/3rd

For those who have gotten off the Queen's waitlist (I guess that means you, silver), how long did they give you to decide whether to accept the offer or not?

Anybody know how many people got offered a spot from the waitlist so far?

finally got the letter in the mail today. it states that the offer was made june 10 (the day she called me) and i have until june 21 to reply. so really not much time... that means the waitlist should move pretty quick.

Anyone hear from Queen's recently?
nothing today. does anyone know the _latest_ they'd call (ie late august? day before orientation?), or if they'd let us know if all the spots are already firmly filled?

Med school waitlists can still move right up until the first few days of classes. One of the guys I met at my Queen's interview a year and a half ago mentioned he was called the last weekend of August. I've even heard rumours of people getting calls from medical schools AFTER classes start, replacing someone who dropped out, but I don't know whether thats ever happened for Queens.
One girl in my class this last year heard the day before orientation...she was all ready to head off to Ireland and then got the phone call. So, you never know!

Congrats Da Birdie!
So, if I have got this right, they didn't call you before they sent you the letter? You must have been really surprised to find a letter from queen's. If you don't mind sharing, when was the letter dated and postmarked? THank you ever so much. :)

it seems that the waitlist is awfully quiet, can anyone confirm that they are really calling people on the list......

Well, I just received an acceptance from Queen's in the mail today. I did not get called by them.
I was actually about to send in my acceptance to Western, and withdraw from the Queen's waitlist today, but forgot the forms at home. I still think that I prefer Western though (will decide for sure by tonight, and send in an acceptance to OMSAS tomorrow).
i also got an offer off the waitlist today. the letter is dated 17 june, postmarked 18 june and came in a regular white envelope. it cost them 77 cents to mail. (for all us admissions-obsessed people...)
i have until 27 june to accept, and they also need a copy of your birth certificate or citizenship card, so if you want to get ready for the lucky letter, copy away!
good luck to everyone else! remember, faith and patience, faith and patience.

Hey Sumi23,
Are you still hoping for Queen's? It doesn't seem like any of the wait lists are moving very fast.
Good luck.

Hey Bubbagump,
I will be hoping for Queen's as long as I can. After July 3rd my provisional acceptance at Mac will become firm and I will have to say goodbye to Queen's. So I only have a few days left.

Sumi23,
I have been following your plight!! Congrats on the Queen's offer...guess you will not be taking MAC? Just curious as I am patiently waiting for that elusive call from my alma matter. Again, congrats, I knew that Queen's was what you really wanted!!

In the works, UBC med students will do their first 2 years at UBC and then the clerkship? will be divided with time at Vancouver, Victoria and Prince George. Not sure when this will start though, didn't ask.

Thanks Sydney and Silver! Yes, I will be attending Queen's this fall if i can get all this paperwork done for omsas and queen's on time and then decline Mac.
Both Mac and Queen's are excellent schools but they are very different. I just thought that Queen's would suit my learning needs and personality better. I just loved the city when I was there for my interview. Sure it was a little cold and there were still flurries in March but it was so beautiful (sorta reminded me of stanley park in vancouver). The students there had such enthusiasm and were so friendly. Also the teaching style at Queen's is what I think would be the best way for me to learn (lectures + pbl) as this is what i am used to. It's kinda hard to put into words but I just thought it sorta clicked for me there and that I could really see myself growing as a person and enjoying four years there.
Silver: I would go to Queen's, if I got accepted to UBC, to have a change of scenary and to have the experience of going to school and living somewhere else. I have been literally living at IRC for 2 years almost and I don't want to go back to it for a while. :o
Of course, tuition and moving away from family are big factors too and I know you had mentally prepared yourself to stay in vancouver. hmm... I see the pickle you are in. THe only thing I can say is that pick the place where you think you are going to enjoy yourself overall... the place which will not only give you the medical school education that you been looking for but also the place that will complement your personality, your needs and keep you a happy person.
I don't know if that makes any sense.... I hope it does.
Anyways, I am little delirious right now. The excitement hasn't worn off. If you come to Queen's I look forward to meeting you.
